John Sterrett is the founder of a SQL Server Consulting and Remote DBA Services company in Austin, TX. We focus on stabilizing, proactive monitoring, performance tuning, and high availability with SQL Server instances. Procure SQL was founded in 2014 and has grown from a one-man company to a company with multiple employees. I am a Microsoft Certified Trainer and was a Data Platform MVP.
Previously, I was a Database Administrator Sr. Advisor at Dell. I am a very lucky individual who gets paid to focus on some of my hobbies which include SQL Server, proactive monitoring, performance tuning, High Availability, and cutting edge technology. Previously, I was a Sr. DBA and directly in charge of training and mentoring some great DBAs at a database service provider. I also worked as a Database Professional and Web Engineering Specialist for Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP.
I currently reside in Austin, TX, and moved from Wheeling, WV in 2012.
I started using computers at a very early age. By the age of ten, I was a computer expert for my family. By the age of sixteen, I administrated a bulletin board system that occurred a phone bill of $700 (thanks mom for not telling dad!). I then started programming in QBasic in grade school and I was hooked. During my first internship, I got introduced to databases and from that point on I knew what I wanted to do for a living.
I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Oklahoma. I enjoy following the Pittsburgh Pirates, meeting new people, traveling, playing golf, wallyball, and volleyball.
