About John

John Sterrett is the founder of a SQL Server Consulting and Remote DBA Services company in Austin, TX. We focus on stabilizing, proactive monitoring, performance tuning, and high availability with SQL Server instances.  Procure SQL was founded in 2014 and has grown from a one-man company to a company with employees.

Previously, I was a Database Administrator Sr. Advisor for Dell.  I am a very lucky individual who gets paid to focus on some of my hobbies which includes SQL Server, proactive monitoring, performance Tuning, High Availability, and cutting edge technology. Previously, I was a Sr. DBA and directly in charge of training and mentoring some great DBA’s at a database service provider.  I also worked as a Database Professional and Web Engineering Specialist for Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP. I work in the Global Operation Center which is located in Wheeling, WV (Pittsburgh Area).

I currently reside in Austin, TX and moved from Wheeling, WV in 2012.

I started using computers at a very early age.  By the age of ten I was the computer expert in the family.  By the age of sixteen I administrated a bulletin board system that occurred a phone bill of $700 (thanks mom for not telling dad!).  I then started programming in qBasic in grade school and I was hooked.  During my first internship I got introduced to databases and from that point on I knew what I wanted to do for a living.

I received a Bachelors of Science degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Oklahoma.  I am a Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist in SQL Server 2005 and 2008.  I live with my wife Nina, son Gregory (aka #BabyBeluga) and Samuel.

I also enjoy following the Pittsburgh Pirates (Yes this update is after the Pirates traded the whole team), meeting new people, traveling, playing golf, wallyball and volleyball.

John, what a nice site! I’ve been friends with you since you moved from Deloitte 5 years ago. Just a couple of things visitors should know (that you wouldn’t say)…. You’re not only a computer whiz, but also a wonderful human being. Those who know you personally and professionally are blessed.
