Best Birthday Ever!

Last week I celebrated my birthday and I have to admit it was the best birthday ever! The following are a few of the highlights including a nice suprise for everyone who follows my blog.

I got to spend my first birthday with baby beluga.  This alone is priceless and a moment that will not be forgotten.

My wife threw a great surprise dinner that included several friends. It was an unexpected suprise.  In fact, I had to cancel dinner plans with Allen White (blog | @SQLRunr) who came into Wheeling, W V just to see me!  Okay, he may tell you he came to race in the Ogden half marathon but we know he came to wish me a happy birthday.

Finally, I gave myself a great gift. The gift of a new oppertunity. That’s right friends I am one of the Remote DBA Experts. No, seriously I am a SQL Server DBA at Remote DBA Experts. I just started this week and I am stoked to be part of the team. If you have any SQL Server needs contact me (I can make a recommendation)

Baby Beluga has arrived!

Shortly after I attended the SQL PASS Members Summit in 2010 I announced a code project named “Beluga.” We are excited to announce that the Release to Market edition of project Beluga is named Gregory Corbett Sterrett. Gregory Corbett Sterrett was released on Feburary 20th at 7:32pm. Greg weighted in at 6lbs and 11.5oz; He is also 21 inches from head to toe.  All three of us are doing well and are excited for whats in store for us in the future.

I will be taking a few weeks off from blogging.  I will also try to unplug myself from the interwebs. Don’t worry as I have plans to come back strong with a series of post about Policy-Based Management and Central Management Server.  In the meantime  enjoy the following photos.

First look: Code-Name “Beluga”

This past week I attended the PASS Member Summit on a budget.  During the conference I got excited during the keynotes when Microsoft announced several new projects with code-names like “Denali”, “Atlanta” and “Crescent.”  I am already a big fan and look forward to working with these features but none of them will have the same impact on my life as the project I am about to share with everyone, code-named “Beluga.”

What is code-name “Beluga”?

It's a baby
It’s a baby its a boy or a girl!

For those who do not know, my wife (Nina) is pregnant and we are expecting our first child.  We are both excited and looking forward to the upcoming months and years as parents.

Why “Beluga”?

During the naming phase we were going to run with “Baby Sterrett” but this name was quickly taken; my oldest brother and his wife are expecting their fist child in January and their baby has been called “Baby Sterrett”.

It hardly seemed appropriate to call our child “Baby Sterrett 2.0;” but because we have decided not to find out the sex of the baby, we needed something to call our little stow away. We toyed with names, such as “Pickle,” “Sprout” and “Sweet Pea.” Nina and I are both fans of Raffi’s songs for children and often sing a song about a baby whale, “Baby Beluga,” to our dogs.  When we started to see pictures of our growing baby “Beluga” just seemed to fit!
